The Volcanic Zone and Hydro Power Plant area of Southern Iceland

Field trips, also for accompanying personsField trips are the best way to maximize the delegates experience and Iceland is a great show case when it comes to variables excursions in different geological environment.
In Iceland you can easily find hot springs, hyaloclastite mountains, active volcanoes, geothermal power plant and district heating systems, waterfalls, beautiful beaches, lovely landscapes and sceneries, the old Icelandic Sagas, Europe’s largest glacier and last and not least very friendly people.

Technical site visits and excursionsTechnical site visits and excursions will be arranged to geotechnical constructions sites as well as to various places in the country of both geotechnical and geological interest.
Pre-conference tours will be arranged during the weekend before the conference and the special technical site visit will be on the Friday following the conference. Special constructions on implemention level could be ongoing in 2019; road bulding on peat, bridges, dams for hydro power plants, new road tunnels, straight crossing of fjords, new harbour and coastal defence construction. Of special interest could be hydro power stations, windfarms, geothermal power plant and The Deep Drilling Project, down to 5 km and about 500 - 600°c. City live or excursion into the countryside, there are many variable possibilities, normal or extreme. See more on following links. |
